Map of Algeria 1856. Carte Generale de l’Algerie published by the French Ministry of War under the direction of Colonel Blondel. On folding linen in 24 sections, size 116 by 70 cm. Uncoloured. With four scales including leagues and kilometres, approximating to about 40 km. to the inch. Heights are indicated by hachuring. Folds into a pocket size and has a decorative label to the front with the signature of what might have been the original owner dated August 1864. A very detailed map in VG condition. £75

Includes the coast of Algeria from Algiers to Tunis, plus Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and the south of Sardinia. With a detailed key and a glossary of terms in Spanish, Italian and Algerian. Has been folded. VG condition. £25
Map of Basra. Published by the British Army 512 Forward Survey Company, Royal Engineers, May 1944 and reprinted February 1945. On paper size 78 by 64 cm. Scale 1:1,000,000. Coded GSGS 2555 and North H-38. Colour. Covers an area of southern Iraq and some of Saudi Arabia. With a key to features including towns, provinces, various gauges of railways, oil wells, forts, mosques, churches, canals etc. Another key provides colour-coded information on airfields, landing strips and other military features as supplied by the RAF in December 1944. There is also a glossary of Arabic terms used in the map. Heights are shown by shading, hachuring and by spot heights. Has been folded and creased but in overall Good to VG condition. £145

Compiled from a Geological Map published by the Mining Department, Melbourne, with revisions by C.S. Wilkinson. Includes a colour-coded key to the varieties and ages of the rocks. One central fold. Some age toning and evidence of handling outside the margins of the map and two small foxing spots at the bottom of the fold. Good condition. £125
Map of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Eastern Turkey. Published Japan, 1939. On folding paper size 75 by 50 cm. Colour. Scale 1:2,500,000. A detailed map. The key includes information on oil pipelines, air routes, caravan routes, population etc. One of a series of maps produced by the Japanese on Soviet Russia, this one covers the part of the USSR bordering Turkey. Has been folded. Good condition. £45
Stanford’s Map of the Siberian Railway: The Great Land Route to China and Korea, published by Stanford, London December 1st 1903. On folding linen in 32 sections, size 116 by 76 cm. Scale 100 miles to the inch. Scales in kilometres and Russian versts are also included. Colour. Heights are shown by hachuring or shading. The map covers an area from eastern Russia to Korea and part of Japan in the east and lands north of a line from the Caspian Sea and Herat across to Shantung. A detailed map in VG condition. This appears to be the first edition of the Stanford map of the Trans-Siberian railway. Trains started to run from Moscow in the summer of 1903 but the line was not completed to Vladivostok until 1904. Folds into original stiff boards with the Stanford label to the front. Some rubbing to spine. £595

On folding linen in 15 sections, size 89 by 79 cm. Scale 8 miles to the inch. Includes inset maps of the Wrexham area; Swansea, Cardiff and Newport; Wolverhampton and Birmingham; Bristol; Plymouth and Paddington. With a key to GWR lines, foreign lines, joint lines, plus authorised lines and lines under construction. Folds into stiff cloth covered boards. VG to Mint condition. £110
Plan Shewing Shropshire Union Canals lithographed by Gresty and Birchall, Chester circa 1880. On folding linen size 63 by 59 cm. Covers an area from Manchester in the north, Lake Bala and Newtown in the west, Buxton in the east to Birmingham in the south. A colour-coded key provides information on seven different canals. The map also shows the coalfields of the region. Folds into stiff boards with title and a label of the Earl of Powis to the front. VG condition. £125

Title is contained in a decorative cartouche. Some hand-colouring. Heights are shown by stylised hill symbols. With original marbled card slipcase, rubbed at edges and worn to reverse but still sound. Map in Good condition. £325

Shewing all the railway stations in Great Britain; also the principal towns and villages, counties in which situated, the railway routes thereto, and distances from London. A mass of contemporary information in a folding format that opens to poster size. Folds into original marbled endpapers and boards. Spine relaid. VG condition. £150
The Junction of the Thames and Canal near Lechlade. Drawn by Farington and engraved by Stadler and published by Boydell, London June 1st 1793. On paper size 32 by 21 cm. An aquatint with original hand-colouring. It shows the bridge, lock and tower with a boat and Lechlade church in the background. Some foxing outside the margins but overall Good condition. £60
Ministry of Transport Highway Development Survey 1937: Greater London, by Sir Charles Bressey and Sir Edwin Lutyens, published by HMSO, London 1938. In stiff cloth covered boards size 34 by 21 cm. 67 pages plus two large folding maps in a wallet in the rear endpapers. The maps, by the Ordnance Survey, are in full colour and open out to 106 by 76 cm. on a scale of 2 inches to the mile (Inner London), and to 106 by 83 cm. on a scale of 2 miles to the inch (Greater London). With 3 appendices including a traffic census map. One corner of the front board has been creased and the boards marked, but binding, contents and maps all in Good to VG condition. £90
The House Beautiful and Useful: Being practical suggestions on furnishing and decorating by J H Elder-Duncan, published by Cassell, London 1907. Size 28.5 by 22.5 cm. In soft cloth wraps, with rough cut front and bottom edges. 224 pages plus another 10 pp of splendid contemporary advertisements. Illustrated throughout with photographs and line drawings. Contains chapters on the history of applied art in the 19th century, decoration, furniture old and modern, carpets, mattings, fabrics etc, along with hints to purchasers. Companies whose designs are described include Heals, William Morris, Waring & Gillow, the Guild of Handicraft and Doultons. Occasional foxing to borders and traces of the top right-hand corners of about 25 pp having once been turned or bent. Binding sound with minor wear to head. With these reservations in Good condition for a book that was intended to be used. £85

Scale ...Folds into stiff boards with the title in an illustrated label to the front. Includes a street index and key to railway termini. New cloth spine. Good to VG condition. £165
The Naval Chronicle Volume XXXIV, July to December 1815. Published by Gold, London 1816. In original stiff marbled boards leather spine with gold bands and title. Size 23.5 by 15 cm. 512 pages plus index. 12 engravings which include 5 maps and charts. Lacks engraving of John Wesley Wright listed in the index. There is an account of Napoleon’s surrender to Captain Maitland, bulletins from on board the Bellerophon and a report of his arrival at St. Helena. The plates are all in Good to Vg condition and include views of Toulon, the North Foreland and Broadstairs, the siege of Acre and a engraving of the action off Quiberon in 1804. The maps and charts are of Ostend, Havre-de-Grace, the Bay of Acre, the Sound between Denmark and Sweden- which includes Copenhagen- and a plan of Gothenburg. Occasional offsetting on pages facing the plates. Both hinges are beginning to weaken but the binding is sound. Some rubbing to spine and corners but overall Good to VG condition. £200
